A Web-based newsletter for the staff of Everett Public Schools
June 22, 2010 Special Edition (NewsLinks articles are archived on Docushare)
MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Congratulations on a fantastic year of learning and achievement for our students, and thank you for your kind welcome for me as your new superintendent. As you prepare to embark upon your summer adventures, whether they be challenging professional development, exciting travel to new places, or fantastic projects around home, please take with you my warmest wishes for a relaxing and rejuvenating summer break. The result of your work this year was wonderful!
Sequoia’s graduation on Thursday and the graduations of Everett, Cascade and H.M. Jackson on Saturday are high profile, capstone events that symbolize our important work. You and I know that graduation is a tremendously significant accomplishment, AND these commencement ceremonies are possible because of the great work done every day at every school and support operation by every staff member and at every age level!
The work you do energizes me. The nearly 200 visits I made this year to your schools and departments help crystallize the messages your district leaders carry to state legislators and the community. Those day-to-day examples help us build coalitions of support for schools and enhance community partnerships that enrich our students’ learning. What you share when we visit your place is significant; your thoughts and messages matter a great deal.
For each of you, I wish for some time this summer to reflect on a tremendously successful school year and to consider ways to build upon those successes next year. I wish for each of you time with loved ones and time to enjoy the recreations and avocations you love.
I’ve told many of you and want each of you to know, this year has been the most exhilarating and rewarding of my 30 years in education. It is so because of you and what you do for kids in our community. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
A FEW REMINDERS FOR THE SUMMER
Check your email this summer
I plan to keep in contact with you this summer and will likely send NewsLinks in July and August with district updates. Be sure to keep in touch. By the way, if you haven’t already signed up for an InTouch account, please take a moment to register, so that you will be aware of what our parents are receiving about the district throughout the summer and beyond. We have over 12,000 people subscribed to InTouch, and it is a major communication tool for our parents and community. It may be helpful for you to know what they are receiving and when.
August levy and voter registration
If you, someone in your family or a neighbor has not yet registered to vote, July 19 is the deadline for registering to vote in the Aug. 17 election. (Your school offices have voter registration forms; we'll send one to you from the Educational Service Center, or you can register online.) This year, the August primary election also includes a temporary Supplemental Educational Programs and Operations Levy for Everett Public Schools and neighboring school districts (Edmonds, Marysville, Granite Falls, and Northshore). Whether you live in this district or another school district, please remember to vote on Aug. 17.
Thank you again for making this a year of learning for each of our students. I truly hope your year was as wonderful as mine.
